Penticton

How can we halt the progression of Penticton becoming a Smart City? Our council is currently spending millions of tax payer dollars on a bike lane that is harming local businesses. The cost overruns are causing additional millions of tax payer dollars and the contingency fund of tax payer dollars set up for maintenance for the entire year was spent in the first 3 months. There were existing bike lanes in place but they were ignored in favour of the Smart City bike lanes which have eliminated valuable parking spaces in our downtown core and caused financial harm to the businesses that no longer have free parking near their business. This is just the first step to Penticton’s Smart City initiative.

no answers for you. We are fighting the same battle in the Central Kootenay’s (RDCK). Here is our May 1 newsletter https://conta.cc/3p370l7 , we have a weekly zoom, and are trying to organize ourselves. We have started gathering helpful documents/letters which can be accessed by members. If you sign up to newsletter right away (thorugh link), you will receive the link to tomorrow (May 9) zoom meeting. Make sure to ask for the link address to Sync documents.

We need to share our tactics / doucuments. It is no mistake on their part to have turned this into a battle for each region / city. Divide and conquer!!

The mayors and politicians took a huge payout from Trudeau to implement the Smart City. Trudeau offered All provincial towns and cities lots of cash to build a Smart City in their city or town. The constitution is ignored.. this is a big step to communism. I suppose speaking to people about this, building an aliance against it and marching into the government buildings demanding NO SMART CITIES may get their attention. War is never an answer.. but a peaceful gathering of like minded citizens has alot of clout.. hopefully the whole city can gather together and also not complying may do the trick. The government and the mayors want everyone to sit back and let it happen.

We just moved away from Penticton and BC because of the political climate and the council’s insisting on adding more bodies to Penticton. It is already overcrowded and noisy and polluted. Since it is a tiny area, it seems to me that it is already a 15 minute city?
